On Sunday mornings, we use two historic forms of worship services. Holy Communion, also called the Eucharist (which means "thanksgiving"), is usually offered two times a month and Morning Prayer is used when a priest has not been scheduled. Both use the orders of service in the Book of Common Prayer (BCP), as authorized in 1979 by The Episcopal Church.
Morning Prayer, lead by a deacon or by a lay person, is approximately 30 minutes and is used when a priest is not scheduled to celebrate Holy Eucharist. Our Morning Prayer is a modern service but rooted in the monastic tradition and ritual of daily prayers, psalms, readings from Scripture, and time honored collects (prayers) and litanies. Often a sermon is included. There is music throughout the service. There also are moments of quiet and time for private intercessions. Some recent Morning Prayer officiants have included Lori Gibbons, Susan Leeds, George Shanoian and Barbie Schulien. Holy Eucharist or Holy Communion is a sacrament celebrated and offered by many Christian denominations, remembering the Last Supper that Jesus had with his disciples. In communion, bread and wine are consecrated and consumed as the body and blood of Jesus Christ. This service uses the historic format and ritual also used in Roman Catholic, Lutheran and other churches. We love music and use a variety of resources. We mainly use the 1982 Episcopal Hymnal but also use Lift Every Voice and Sing and Gather. Our Music Director plays solo pieces during the service and posts additional hymns on our Facebook Page. The Sunday morning service may be viewed live on our Facebook page, or anytime after the service "on demand," also on Facebook. If you are unable to watch at the time of the service view it at another time at your convivence. Each week the Sunday Service details are available in a printed leaflet that contains the complete Order of Service, with the exception of hymns and the sermon. Special Holy Days and other special liturgical events will be shared on Facebook and service leaflets will be available in advance of such services. The weekly Sunday leaflets are available via email, by request. Please contact the church office and ask to be added to the leaflet email list.
